Film art is one of the most underrated artists in the world. Some of the art might have decreased with the advent of digital, but it still holds a kind of magic one cannot really take their eyes away from. Basically, retro film posters aren’t just posters but a piece of pop culture. And there’s one website that’s selling actual film posters at prices that won’t have you break your bank. We spoke to the founder, Hinesh Jethwani, who introduced us to a whole new world of Bollywood memorabilia.
We asked him about what inspired him to start a website that exclusively sold Bollywood memorabilia.
Hinesh said, “It all started for me as a collection. I was into collection movie posters and after a while, I had a lot of them. I thought that it was unfair for me to keep them hoarded and really wanted to just ensure that only a true Bollywood fan gets their hands on them.”
“So, the parent company is Indian Hippy, (http://www.hippy.in) and now we have a new website named Bollywood Movie Posters (http://www.bollywoodmovieposters.com). We are in this business since the past 7 to 8 years”
We then asked him what kind of posters he has. He replied, “We do not have reprints. These are only those posters that are commissioned by the producer. For example, we have a Sholay poster from the original run, as well as one that was recently commissioned, because Sholay still runs in the villages.”
Well, commissioned posters. Does that mean that the posters are limited versions?
“Of course.“ Hinesh replies. “You will see that some of the posters are out of stock. So, we don’t know whether we will ever be able to stock them. If a producer or a distributor commissions some, we might get a restock, or else – that’s the only posters that we ever sold.”
So, we also asked him which posters were selling like hot cakes when it came to horror. And pat came the predictable reply.
“Posters generally sell for two reasons. One, for the recall value, and two, for the artwork. Veerana and Purana Mandir sell a lot. Most of the buyers are outside the country. This goes to prove that there’s a huge fan following of the Ramsay films outside India. Then there’s a Shaitaani Mujrim poster. It’s a hot selling poster on our website. It is a hand painted design. Also, Haveli sells very well.”
You can buy these posters over at Bollywood Movie Posters. The website offers international shipping as well.
