I had earlier reported that IT could become the highest grossing Hollywood Horror ever and seems like I have been proved right. Stephen King’s IT has broken records left, right and centre and is now galloping towards a domestic box office of $300+ million. The film has become a box-office darling outside the US too, and has made a respectable $30+ million. Right now, it sits at a cool $400+ million.
This is indeed the Summer of Horror, with not one but two horror films going the blockbuster way. This weekend, Annabelle: Creation made more than $300 million at the box office, making it another legit Hollywood blockbuster.
Also, seems like the guys in suits had something to tell us film bloggers and we didn’t pay heed to it – inflation. There was news about IT becoming the highest Hollywood horror grosser, but that’s not happening. Considering facts-of-life like inflation, The Exorcist took over $1.8 billion worldwide.
Of course, we still have to take online into consideration. Amazon and Netflix will definitely be open with their coffers to get a hold on this film. But even they’d balk to cover enough $ to make IT the legit highest grossing horror film of all time.
