Savita Damodar Paranjpe is a Marathi thriller film, releasing on August 31. The film is based on the play of the same name. In the film, a supernatural force possesses a married woman. This leads her perplexed husband to seek help, but all is not as it seems. The trailer for the film is now on YouTube and promises an intense film for fans of psychological thrillers. Marathi cinema doesn’t have many psychological thrillers, so this is a welcome respite. Savita Damondar Paranjpe stars Subodh Bhave, Savita Prabhune, Angad Mhaskar, Rakesh Vashisht, Pallavi Patil and Trupti Toradmal.
The trailer promises an intense viewing experiences. Trupti Toradmal has earlier acted in the TV series Kalash and Hum Dono. She was also part of the short film, The Waiter in Slow Motion. Going by the trailer, Trupti seems well equipped to handle the multi-layered character. Subodh Bhave gives excellent support as the confused husband. Rakesh Bapat as the man who holds the key is impressive too.
Marathi cinema doesn’t have many alternate genre films. However, younger film-makers are rising up to the challenge. The Zapatlela franchise is proof that even Marathi audiences are receptive of genres other than romance and action. Recently, Vishal Furia’s Marathi horror film, Lapachappi became quite popular and won rave reviews.
A true story inspired the play. John Abraham produces the film. This is his first foray into Marathi cinema. Earlier, he has produced Madras Cafe and Pokhran. It is interesting to see John tackle various genres with his films and experiment. This is John’s first foray into psychological and supernatural films too. Earlier, Anushka Sharma made two horror films, a horror comedy, Phillauri and an out and out horror, Pari.
